Plumbing Franchise

So, you are looking for a plumbing franchise! Well it can be a profitable business but before you jump in consider why you need a franchise, many companies offer a franchise for complete beginners to plumbing.

Ok, this can be a good idea but before you can work as a plumber you will need some training and qualifications, the plumbing franchise may offer this within the package, however you may find you can get the training and qualifications independently, often saving money and time.

Once you have the basic qualifications you can start to trade as a plumber, really the minimum level you should be before starting to trade is the City & Guilds Level 2, this course can be found for a few thousand pounds,  a plumbing franchise on the other hand will be at least £10,000.

With the money you will have saved, some of it can then be used to promote your new business, advertising in the local papers, joining networking groups, leaflet distribution etc, often very effective and once you start getting customers as long as you do a good job and don’t overcharge then recommendations will start to come as well.

Consider why the company you are researching is trying to sell you a franchise, do they need to have more plumbers to meet demand or are they more interested in making a quick buck by selling you a plumbing course, then if you do jump through all the hoops, take a further chunk of your turnover.

Plumbing is not a difficult subject or trade, it’s not for everyone but if you have basic diy skills and the desire and determination to succeed as a plumber then you will be ok.

Then there is the secondary task of starting your own business, including marketing, sales, customer service, accounting etc. Consider all these things and weigh up the pros and cons of going it alone compared to a plumbing franchise before making your final decision.

Best of luck and I wish you every success in your new chosen profession.
